Lecture Summary: 10/15/10

Dada, Surrealism, and After

Dada:
-Began during WWI
-Protest against war, society, and old social order

Contributions:

Some Dada Artists:
-Jean Arp
-Hugo Ball
-Kurt Schwitters
-Marcel Duchamp

Hugo Ball opened Cabaret Voltaire in 1916 in Switzerland.
A group of the Dada artists moved to Berlin.
In 1924 there was a group in Paris that was interested in new forms of expression that morph into surrealism.

We watched a few videos made by Dada artists that were pretty interesting. They were definitely not like anything I have seen before.
